“No keywords, or typing—just draw on your screen with your finger to identify where you want to search.” This is how Yahoo! describes its brilliant application used for rapidly getting a bird’s eye view of local restaurants, complete with information on each establishment, phone number, operation hours, user reviews and, most recently, the ability to book a table directly from the app.

According to the official iTunes description of Yahoo’s updated Sketch-a-Search App for iPhone, “It’s the easiest way to search you can imagine. Draw on your screen with your finger to identify where you want to search, and get restaurants suggestions in that area.”

“Get Zagat reviews; or make reservations via OpenTable. Search by cuisine, ambience, or ratings; view price range, get driving directions or call the restaurant with a tap,” Yahoo explains.

The full changelog for Yahoo! Sketch-a-Search 1.5 (for iPhone) is available below:

New with this update: - Zagat rated restaurants in the search results - Book a table through the app with OpenTable integration - Much simpler way to browse user reviews - Very simple way for users to report data changes - Simplified filters for cuisine, ambience, star ratings - Clean-up of up closed restaurants

There’s a separate version of the app for iPad users. Sketch-a-Search for iPad is now at version 1.0.4 (updated in tandem with the iPhone build) which allows users to: get details, like restaurant hours, and price range;  filter by cuisine, atmosphere and starred rating; pick a city or search by your most recent location; get phone numbers, address and driving directions; view photos and read user reviews.
