The top grossing paid iPhone application, Angry Birds, is getting a sequel, according to Rovio CEO Peter Vesterbacka, who hinted at the Virtual Goods Summit in London that the title won’t just be Angry Birds 2.

Angry Birds is a puzzle video game developed by Finnish development studio Rovio.

Since its release for Apple's iOS platforms, over 10 million copies of the game have been purchased. The title was also made available for other touch-centric smartphones.

Poket-Lint now reports that, during his speech at the Virtual Goods Summit, the Rovio CEO initially confirmed Angry Birds’ upcoming arrival on all major consoles - PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and the Nintendo Wii.

According to the report, he then suggested that “a sequel to the massively successful original is in development, although it won't just be Angry Birds 2.”

Poket-Lint cites David Selle, an experienced games industry executive, as saying (via Twitter) that Vesterbacka announced: "we want to surprise people. No one has told the story from the pigs point of view".

‘Angry Pigs’ (if that’s what Rovio has in mind for the name of the sequel) will most likely feature a gameplay scheme similar to that of Angry Birds.

Players would take control of different pigs, each with their own super-powers, trying to smash into the birds’ nests.

If this turns out to be so, the game will see a massive amount of trees get chopped down, have their branches broken etc.

The birds will likely take refuge within other kinds of structures as well, so that Rovio can bring back the different types of materials requiring a different pig to break - wood, glass, and stone.

The object of the game should also remain in place - eliminate all birds on the current level.

As for the bonuses, only Rovio can say for sure what those are.
