Might come in January 2010

Japanese-Swedish mobile phone maker Sony Ericsson officially announced its Windows Mobile 6.5-powered handset Xperia X2 only last week, and stated that the new device was slated for release on the market in the fourth quarter of the ongoing year. However, other details on the launch of the phone have recently emerged, showing a possible price tag for the device, and a video with its user interface is also available.

The Sony Ericsson Xperia X2 can be seen listed for order on Expansys' website, where the expected launch date for it is said to be January 11, 2010, while its price tag seems to have been set at £604.99. It is rather hard to believe that Sony Ericsson already pushed Xperia X2's launch date back, so it might be only the retailer that will have it on its offering a little later than others. As for the price tag, which is of around $1,000, or about €700, it seems quite leveraged, one should agree. The Xperia X2 can be seen on the retailer's website here.

As many of you might already know, Sony Ericsson's previous Xperia handset based on Microsoft's Windows Mobile operating system, the X1, has shown a poor performance on the market, due to the fact that it was quite pricey, and that the period of time between its official unveiling and its availability on the market was a long one. Based on the Xperia X2 listing on Expansys, one can easily assume that the phone maker is about to repeat the history.

Hopefully, this is not the case, and the retailer is wrong. The successor of Sony Ericsson Xperia X1 looks attractive enough to appeal to a lot of users around the world, and its maker should consider backing it up with a lower price and with a faster launch. Take a quick look at the video below, which shows the guys over at HardwareZone playing around with the phone's user interface, to see what improvements X2 brings to the market.
