We all know that the Android 2.1 Éclair software update should land on Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 in the near future, but we still have to learn when exactly that would happen. Until then, we can have a look at a new video showing the two go along together, as well as some benchmarking test results from some lucky enough to have already played with the solution.

Sony Ericsson is set to deliver the new software solution to all of its Xperia X10 users out there in the next few days, namely before October is over.

The company announced in late September that it would have Android 2.1 ready for Xperia X10 before the end of October, and reaffirmed its commitment to do so several hours ago via Twitter.

However, the exact launch day for the new software update is not known, and we'll have to wait for the company to make it all official.

In the meantime, we can have a look at the aforementioned video preview with Android 2.1 on Xperia X10, which comes from the guys over at swedroid (via xperiax10.net).

According to them, we're looking at a rather big file that would be deployed on X10 units, and the best move one can do is to update the handset via a desktop PC.

As for the OS itself, it is said to be playing along pretty well with the Xperia X10 smartphones, and the benchmarking test results attached to the left are meant to prove that.

Following the update, the smartphone would show 280MB of working RAM, compared to the 275MB showed when on Android 1.6.

The Xperia X10 – Android 2.1 pair manages to score pretty high in some of the tests, though falling behind Android 1.6 in others.

According to Sony Ericsson, the Android 2.1 update for Xperia X10 is in its latest stages of development, which means that the final solution should very much look at perform the same as the flavor previewed and benchmarked at swedroid.
