Japanese-Swedish mobile phone maker Sony Ericsson promised a software update for its high-end Xperia X10 handsets quite a while ago, and it appears that the said solution is almost here. The official deployment should start before the end of this month, while continuing in the following weeks until all handsets are upgraded.

In an attempt to maintain the interest in Android 2.1 for Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 at a high level, the company's Rikard Skogberg has just posted on the Sony Ericsson product blog a series of videos with the pre-release version of the software.

“This is not the final release but we are really close to releasing the final candidates into external and operator testing and approval now,” Rikard Skogberg states on the said blog.

At the same time, he announced that the roll-out is expected to starts as soon as all the necessary approvals are received.

“The current plan still holds to start the roll-out towards the end of October and onwards (As mentioned earlier the roll-out is done gradually though so it will take some time before all different versions get the update),” he continues.

We should note that, although we're referring here to the OS update as Android 2.1 for Xperia X10, all Android-based handsets from the company should receive it, including X10 mini and X10 mini pro, as well as Xperia X8.

When it comes to the videos below, they are meant to show us how Android 2.1 and Xperia X10 would go along together when the software update is released.

“First video out is a short clip showing the home screen that now has 5 panes and some other nice additions such as 5 rows of icons instead of 4. I also show some new widgets that come with the update,” Skogberg notes in the said blog post.

As for the second video, it should offer us a glimpse at how the handset can handle HD video recording with continuous auto focus.

According to Skogberg, some changes might be included in the final version of the software, when compared to the pre-release version, but things should look just as showcased below.
