Reportedly, Sony Ericsson Xperia Mango would be the latest Android-based mobile phone that the Japanese-Swedish handset vendor would aim at unveiling to the world in the very near future.

The new device, which is expected to land on shelves as the successor of last year's Xperia X10 mini pro, has made a few appearances into the wild lately, and a full batch of photos with it can already be seen on the web.

First of all, we should note that the mobile phone is rumored to be closer to becoming official than what some might have expected.

Apparently, Sony Ericsson might be set to unveil the handset as soon as next week, with Google's Android 2.3.3 Gingerbread operating system on board and with a 1GHz application processor inside.

What's even more interesting is that the company might also release a successor for the Xperia X10 mini smartphone on that day, one that reportedly sports the codename of Smultron.

For those out of the loop, we should note that the Xperia X10 mini and Xperia X10 mini pro were releases as smaller flavors of Xperia X10, and that the pro version came with a sliding QWERTY keyboard into the mix.

The same as Mango, the Smultron should pack a 1GHz application processor inside, along with Gingerbread and a HVGA (320 x 480) touchscreen display that would measure three inches in diagonal.

Mango should be codenamed SK17i and SK17a, with the said slide-out QWERTY keyboard included into the mix, while the Smultron would be codenamed ST15i and ST15a (via).

Other specifications of the new mobile phones would include five-megapixel cameras on the back, complemented by front facing webcams for video calling.

The upcoming close release of these two handsets is only a rumor for the time being, but it should not be too long before specific info on the matter emerges, so stay tuned to learn more on this, especially since a third device is also tipped to make an official appearance at that time.
