Sony Ericsson has just released a new software update for its high-end Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Android-based mobile phone, bringing the firmware on this device up to version 2.0.2.A.0.24, with Baseband version 2.0.49.

The new software update for the company's first Android-based mobile phone is said to be only a minor one, though it was aimed both at Xperia devices running under the older Android 1.6 platform version, as well as those who already tasted the new Android 2.2 Froyo OS upgrade.

Unfortunately, the company does not offer specific info on what was included in the new software update, though it seems that there should be some fixes and enhancements that would improve the experience the handset can offer to its users.

Among these enhancements, the guys over at xperiax10.net mention better performance overall including Timescape and Mediascape, complemented by a new keyboard, and improved in-call audio.

“New Sony Ericsson software is now available for your phone. Update your software to get the latest features and corrections and keep your phone in the best possible condition,” is the only thing that the mobile phone maker would say about the solution.

Users would be notified on the availability of the solution on their devices. The easiest way to download the new firmware is to accept the update when notified.

Here's what the handset vendor notes on the manner in which the update can be performed:

If your phone already has Android 2.1, you can use your mobile network or a WiFi connection to download the software. Alternatively, you can connect to your PC and use PC Companion (if you don’t already have it, download via the button below).

If your phone still has Android 1.6, you need to use PC Companion to update your phone with the latest software. For more info on benefits included in the Android 2.1 update, click “Show previous update/s” below.

On the downside, the solution prevented the Xperia X10 from being rooted. However, some enthusiasts already took care of this, and a pre-rooted version of this update is already available for download for those interested in it. More info on it can be found on xperiax10.net here.

The Sony Ericsson PC Companion is available for download from Softpedia as well, via this link.
