NTT DOCOMO, INC. announced today that it would soon add to its lineup a new high-end mobile phone, dubbed the docomo Smartphone Xperia, which is none other than the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 handset running under Google's Android operating system. According to the company, the new device is set to become available for purchase for its users starting with April, while including a great deal of features and capabilities aimed at enhancing the user experience of its owners.

The docomo Smartphone Xperia comes to the market in Japan with a fast 1GHz Snapdragon CPU from Qualcomm, boasts a large 4.0-inch touchscreen display, runs under Google's Android OS, and features a wide range of multimedia capabilities, including intelligent mobile communication, web browsing, music and more. It also sports Sony Ericsson's POBox Touch 1.0, a predictive text-input system for Japanese and English, enabling users to write messages faster than before.

The handset will also arrive on shelves with the Mediascape and Timescape applications from Sony Ericsson, NTT DOCOMO announced. The former solution will offer users the possibility to easily organize their music, photos and videos, and it can search on the phone and online for content related to an artist, if the infinite button is pressed while playing a song. As for the latter app, it can organize communication histories fast and easy, via pressing the same button.

According to the carrier, the new device is compatible with its HSUPA/HSDPA data-communication service, and it also comes with Wi-Fi connectivity options, so that users can easily access social networking sites like YouTube and Picasa. Not to mention that it offers access to the Android Market, where one will find an impressive number of applications developers for Google's operating system. The specifications list of docomo Smartphone Xperia also shows an 8.1-megapixel photo snapper that sports face detection features, video recording and more.

Along with the launch of the new handset, NTT DOCOMO also plans to debut a new mobile web portal for smartphone users, the “docomo market.” According to the company, the storefront will provide users with a nice range of recommended content and applications, including some original solutions from the carrier, so that the user experience of Japanese smartphone owners is enhanced.
