New details about the Sony Ericsson super-phone

Sony Ericsson Xperia X1 is, apparently, a mobile device more advanced than most of us think. Although it has been three months since the X1 was officially announced, the handset will be available after yet another three months, in September 2008. But when it hits the market, the X1 will bring, besides the already known features, 256MB of SDRAM, 512MB of NAND Flash memory and a huge battery lifetime: up to 580 hours of stand-by time in GSM networks and up to 833 hours on the UMTS ones, plus up to 10 hours of GSM talk-time and up to 6.5 hours of UMTS talk-time.

These aspects regarding the capabilities of Xperia X1 were officially unveiled only recently, via the "white paper" of the handset, posted on Sony Ericsson's website (you can download the PDF file from this address). Initially, the X1 was said to have only 128MB of RAM plus 256MB of Flash memory and as for its battery, we only knew that it was going to be a 1500 mAh one.

Now, with the new details emerged, Xperia X1 seems to be one of the most powerful smartphones ever created. The 580 hours of GSM stand-by time basically mean that the device can function - theoretically at least - for more than 3 weeks after a full battery charging, which is quite impressive. Moreover, the 256MB of SDRAM, together with the 528 MHz Qualcomm MSM7200 processor and the 512MB NAND Flash memory, can make Xperia X1 one of the fastest mobile devices on the market.

Of course, the wide 800 x 640 pixel display of the handset will eat-up a lot from its resources, but it looks like Sony Ericsson carefully thought about this and decided to upgrade the final version of the phone and make it better than previously announced.

Besides X1, Sony Ericsson is developing other Xperia handsets, which could have even more high-end features, but there are no clear details about them at the moment. Anyway, we must first wait for the final and real X1 to be available. Although September is a bit far away, we think the waiting is worth it.
