Android 2.3.4 is the latest software update that was announced for the Xperia handsets that Sony Ericsson brought to the market during the ongoing year, and it seems that the OS is already being deployed to devices.

The mobile phone maker said before that it plans on making the OS upgrade available for the new Xperia devices starting with October, yet it appears that some lucky users have already started to taste it.

It all began with the Sony Ericsson Xperia neo smartphone, which received the update with some new, appealing features included into the mix.

Among these, we can count the new 3D panorama camera feature, complemented by the Swype keyboard, a series of enhancements brought to Facebook inside Xperia, or the ability to take screenshots.

According to some of those who already downloaded and installed the new OS flavor on their devices, the version number is now 4.0.1.A.0.283, up from 4.0.A.2.368.

In addition to Xperia neo, handsets like the Xperia PLAY and Xperia arc were also said to have started receiving the update, and Xperia pro is also expected to taste it soon.

Following the update, all handsets will be able to make 3D pictures using Sony Ericsson's 3D Panorama software, so that they can view these on 3D-capable televisions.

There is also Swype to enjoy, though rumor has it that Xperia PLAY did not receive it, which is rather strange, since Verizon included it in the latest OS upgrade it released for its users of this device.

Among the other enhancements the new platform upgrade should deliver to Xperia PLAY owners, we can count the ability to place video calls using Google Talk, or the said improvements brought to Sony Ericsson's own social networking software, Facebook inside Xperia.

As expected, there are also a variety of other enhancements, bug fixes and different changes, all of which are aimed at improving the general experience that users receive from their devices.

The new OS flavor will not be pushed to all Xperia handsets at the same time, but the roll-out will be performed sequentially. More info on the OS upgrade will emerge in the near future, so stay tuned. (via)
