Japanese-Swedish mobile phone maker Sony Ericsson is reportedly gearing up for the launch of a new version of its Xperia PLAY device, one that would add a HDMI port into the mix.

The mobile phone is already available for purchase in a series of markets around the world, but there is no HDMI port included with it, so as to enable easy connection with a high-definition TV set.

However, it seems that Sony Ericsson is gearing up for resolving this issue, at least this is what the photos that emerged over at se-xperia would show.

The PlayStation phone can be seen there connected to a TV via what might be a HDMI cable, hence the idea that a new flavor of the device might be set to arrive soon.

Sony Ericsson has loaded such a connectivity port on other handsets it launched on shelves recently, such as the Xperia arc that was launched in early January at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.

But the Xperia PLAY, which was released at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona in February, came to the market without this feature.

Having the Xperia PLAY connected to a HDMI TV would provide users with a great experience, that's for sure, though no specific info on the matter emerged for the time being, beside the photos attached to this article.

Off course, there is also the possibility that the cable in these photos is a micro USB one, and not HDMI, which would mean that enthusiasts should not get their hopes too high as of yet.

For the time being, there is no official word from Sony Ericsson regarding the possible release of a new Xperia PLAY flavor, and all this might turn out to be fake. Have a look at the photos attached to this article, available courtesy of se-xperia, and judge for yourself.
