In early 2011, Sony Ericsson has brought to the spotlight the first smartphone in their offering to sport PlayStation certification, namely the Xperia PLAY, and the device is available for purchase in the UK now for only £199.80 (around $310 / 230 Euro), though SIM free. The offer is available courtesy of online retailer Expansys, who says that the phone will be delivered to users by October 7th.

In addition to the SIM free offering, the retailer also made the new handset available via its website with various deals on the airwaves of Three UK, T-Mobile or O2, with the device available for free on select plans.

Packing a large 4-inch touchscreen display, the Xperia PLAY is also the first Android smartphone in the world to arrive on shelves with a sliding gaming pad with the usual PlayStation controls on it.

The handset also packs a fast 1GHz application processor inside, along with 1GB of internal memory, and support for additional storage space via microSD memory card slot.

On the back, the mobile phone sports a 5-megapixel photo snapper, with support for HD video recording.
