The first PlayStation-certified smartphone in the world, the Sony Ericsson Xperia PLAY, is expected to make an appearance on shelves at O2 UK sometime next month.

The handset was supposed to arrive at the carrier in early April, but it was delayed due to some software issues, O2 announced in late March.

A few weeks ago, the carrier unveiled that the software is being re-tested and that the handset should be brought to shelves soon, and now they announce the June would be the release time frame for the PlayStation phone.

According to a recent post on the carrier's blog, Stuart Hibberd, head of O2’s testing team, has already set a release date for the device.

“As you may have seen, we’ve been extensively testing the Sony Ericsson Xperia PLAY over the last few months to make sure it’ll give our customers a great experience when they use it,” the post reads.

“I’m happy to say that the end is now in sight and we’re planning to put the Xperia PLAY on sale at the start of June.”

Apparently, all of the bugs that have been identified during the testing period on the mobile phone were already fixed, or they are being worked now, and the phone will be ready to ship in a month's time.

“All the bugs we identified in our testing have now either been fixed or are being worked on and we’re confident that they will be fixed shortly,” the blog post continues.

“We’ll be working closely with Sony Ericsson throughout May and if everything goes to plan we’ll be happy to approve the PLAY and put it on sale, both the black version and our exclusive white version.”

The carrier has yet to unveil specific info on the pricing of the Android 2.3 Gingerbread-based device, but all the necessary details would become available soon, it seems.
