Recently, mobile phone maker Sony Ericsson officially confirmed plans to make its Sony Ericsson Xperia PLAY smartphone available for purchase on the market in Spain as of April 1st, 2011.

Following a series of rumors regarding the launch date for this device, the company itself stepped up and put them to a rest through unveiling the official day when this device would be put on sale.

According to the company, starting with April 1st, mobile phone users in Spain would have the possibility to purchase the new device both on contract, as well as SIM free.

The handset would arrive on the local market dressed both in black and white, with Vodafone said to have the white color version of the device available for its customers exclusively for 15 days.

Sony Ericsson also announced that the Xperia PLAY lands in Spain with a price tag of 649 Euros attached to it.

However, the cost of the device would be different at wireless carriers, though they plan on unveiling specific info on this at a later date.

When available, the new Android-based smartphone would pack a number of 6 games pre-loaded on it, just as the company announced back in February, when it made the handset official.

However, users would have the opportunity to enjoy even more games on this device at launch, with over 50 of them said to be available for download via the Android Market.

The Sony Ericsson Xperia PLAY is the first handset in the world to be PlayStation certified.

The mobile device would put together a touchscreen display with a sliding game pad that features the popular PlayStation buttons.

The phone also comes with a powerful application processor packed inside, as well as with 3G, WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity options, microSD memory card slot, 3.5mm headphone jack, 5MP camera on the back, or support for various Google Mobile Services and for apps available in the Android Market.
