XFX has been known to be working on a firearm-themed iteration of the dual-GPU ATI Radeon HD 5970, namely the HD 5970 Black Edition with 4GB of GDDR5 VRAM, and it seems that the wait for its arrival may finally soon end, now that a limited edition package has been pictured.

As end-users may know, the HD 5970 is, even now the most powerful reference graphics card on the consumer market, as it has two high-end DirectX 11-capable GPUs.

With NVIDIA having promised its own dual-Fermi cards, AMD's partners have been promoting their 4GB HD 5970 models.

Examples of such monstrous creations are the ASUS Ares and the Sapphire Toxic, both with their respective unique designs and cooling solutions.

XFX has also been known to have a 4GB HD 5970 under development, and while worldwide availability may not have been reached yet, limited edition packages have begun to ship.

TweakPC apparently got a hold of one of these limited edition packages and was quick in releasing some pictures of it and the display solution itself.

The two GPUs are clocked at 850 MHz and have 2GB of memory each, clocked at 1200 MHz (4800 MHz). Also, the GPUs are set far apart on the PCB and each has its own heatsink.

The card has a cooling assembly with grooves on the top and a single fan that rests at the middle of the whole construction and blows air to both of the aforementioned heatsinks.

As for the packaging itself, XFX made a special case for its beast, shaped like a Belgian P90 submachine gun, and even provided a unique bag, similar, in looks, to those used to carry sniper rifles.

The reports suggest that sales of the XFX HD 5970 Black Edition have already started, and while the exact price is still unknown, it is likely to exceed $1,000.
