Silicon Knights' new title, X-Men: Destiny, has finally been detailed by the developer, showcasing its story and when the title actually takes place.

There have been quite a few different X-Men titles over the years, but Destiny is promising to really take the story up a notch.

According to Silicon Knights, X-Men: Destiny will focus on the "tough decisions that an average X-Man has to make."

The story takes place when the anti-mutant sentiment of the USA is at an all-time high due to the hate acts and the rampant crime streaks committed by both mutants and regular humans.

Gamers will play as the child of a "human zealot" who considers that mutants are "nature's greatest mistake" and therefore must be eliminated.

Three different candidates will be presented to the players, each being officially integrated in the X-Men cannon by the writers at Marvel Comics.

The chosen child will grow up to have special powers, and then joins up with the X-Men in order to help stop the anti-mutant campaign.

Still, even if the story sounds a bit weird at first, you'll get to see plenty of famous mutants from the comic book series, including Magneto, Gambit, Quicksilver or Surge.

A choice system is also going to be implemented, with so-called "decision moments," while players are going to augment their abilities by collecting the genes of other mutants through their adventures.

According to the game's initial press release, X-Men: Destiny is an "all-new original video game [which] casts players as new mutant recruits in a rich, branching storyline that features a deep element of choice and gives players ultimate control of their destiny."

No other information was released, but you can expect the game to arrive around the end of 2011, published by Activision, for a variety of platforms, including the PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360.
