Comic book company Marvel has just filed a trademark for "Secret Wars," which is a series of big event-comics in its long-running universe, that, according to the filing, will be used for a video game-related purpose.

In case you're not familiar with the Marvel comic universe, the Secret Wars series is made up of three big events: the original Secret Wars, Secret Wars II and the most recent Secret War.

The first release was one of Marvel's most popular superhero crossover stories, published back in 1984, and, among other things, gave Spider-Man his special black Symbiote suit, which enhanced his special powers.

The series was followed up by Secret Wars II, in 1985, which told the story of the Beyonder, the powerful being that was responsible for the first Secret Wars, and forced the big Marvel heroes, including the X-Men, Iron Man or Captain America to work together and stop him.

Last but not least, the third crossover, Secret War, appeared more recently, in 2004, but wasn't actually related to the first two ones, and didn't really manage to attract fans.

As you can imagine, this trademark has peaked the interest of many Marvel fans, especially since the file specifies that it will be used for video games and products related to them.

Among the rumors, fans are saying that the theme of the Secret Wars might be the plot to a new Marvel Ultimate Alliance game, specifically Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3.

There's a problem though, as the Civil War, a crossover that was the basis of Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2, happened after the Secret Wars, so Marvel needs to do some quick editing in order to justify the continuity gaps.

The game is still in rumor stage, as Marvel is focusing on other video game products, including the upcoming Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Fate of the Two Worlds, with Capcom, and a new X-Men game called X-Men: Destiny, in partnership with Activision.
