If it hadn’t been for the controversy surrounding the decision that got them on the live shows on X Factor, Cher Lloyd and Katie Waissel would have still made themselves noticed for their unique and quirky fashion sense and style.

So unique that it’s already catching on and becoming a trend, with a boost in sales of fake eyelashes already being recorded, the Daily Mail notes.

As X Factor fans must know, both Katie and Cher reportedly make a lot of fuss about their style, and pay a lot of attention to how they appear in front of the camera.

However, they also have in common their love for fake eyelashes, of which they sometimes wear two pairs for maximum drastic effect.

On the judges’ house audition, Katie, for instance, wore a pair of fake eyelashes made of feathers (pictured here as well), matching a hair piece she also had on.

Smoky-eye makeup is also on the rise as a trend, the Mail says – and Cher Lloyd may have played an important part in that.

“Superdrug, which has reported a 33 per cent rise in sales of false eyelashes compared with last year, attributes the boom to their popularity with the X Factor stars, who have been sporting them this series,” the Mail notes.

“Women of all ages are now keen to replicate their fluttering inky lashes and Superdrug is selling a pair every 30 seconds throughout October,” the tab further says.

The fact that these two hopefuls whose looks women are trying to emulate are not celebrities just yet (therefore are more easily relatable) also explains the boost in sales.

“Sales of lashes have been climbing steadily this year but last weekend saw the first of our lash peaks as customers wanted to get the X-Factor look,” Sara Wolverson, Superdrug Beauty Director, tells the publication.

And things are about to get even better.

“We predict that we’ll sell 100,000 packs of lashes in our peak weeks over Halloween and Christmas,” Wolverson says.

“What we’re really seeing is that girls are really going for that extreme look and wearing two pairs of lashes over each other,” she explains.
