Blizzard, the creator and operator of World of Warcraft, has announced that the Remote Auction House is now live, allowing players who need to keep an eye on the in-game auctions and their gold levels to do so using their web browser or any Internet capable Apple device. The application can be set to offer real time notifications and Blizzard is offering both a free version and one which costs 2.99 dollars for one month.

Those who get the free version can see the inventory of their characters, the amount of gold they have and the way auctions go at any moment. Those who need more powerful tools can chose to pay Blizzard in order to be able to create new auctions from items in the inventory, bank or mailbox and to place bids in real time. Basically the free version of the Remote Auction House only allows World of Warcraft addicts to look while the paid version also allows players to touch and collect.

World of Warcraft is the most popular subscription based MMO in the world of videogames, managing to get a player base which goes above 11 million. It will be interesting to see how many of those are so engaged with the experience that they are ready to pay for the Remote Auction House in order to be able to keep a constant eye on the free market of the MMO.

Later this year, Blizzard is also set to launch the third expansion for World of Warcraft, called Cataclysm. The new addition will not only add new content for the MMO, but it will also significantly upgrade the looks and the gameplay mechanics for areas that have been part of the game since it was launched. The story told in Cataclysm will focus on Deathwing the Destroyer, a tough old dragon who seeks to remake Azeroth in his image.
