Aim for the turret

Wargaming.net has announced it is developing World Of Tanks, a new free-to-play MMO that will allow gamers to control a wide array of World War II tanks in a number of impressive armored battles. World of Tanks is set to arrive in the fall of 2010 and Wargaming.net says that it will not charge for any part of the experience.

It seems that the focus of World of Tanks will be on Players versus Player action, with teams made up of up to 40 gamers facing off against each other. More than 150 armored vehicles will be simulated, with the earliest of them made just before World War II and the most advanced launched just before the Korean War.

Not only tanks are included, as players are able to use tank destroyers, self-propelled howitzers units and rocket artillery. There are German, Russian and American machines simulated, and the variety is enough to allow any player to find a vehicle that suits their needs.

World of Tanks will feature a player garage where they can park each vehicle when it is not in use. There is no limitation on the number of tanks one can own and there are various options to upgrade different sections, like the chassis, the engine, the turret, and the ammunition used. Each crew member can also be leveled up as they see combat and gain experience.

Wargaming.net is stating that there will be historical campaigns offered, with special attention paid to how the real world battles unfold, but that the main attraction will be Clan Wars, which are fought on a global scale, diplomacy and economics also having an impact.

Victor Kislyi, the Chief Executive Officer of Wargaming.net, revealed that “A wise gentleman once observed that men had the same relationship to tanks, as women to SPA treatments: an all-eclipsing love, hardwired into the genes. That's why we are coming up with Panzer MMO.”
