Not long ago, an architectural firm proposed that the Keystone XL pipeline be turned into a tourist attraction. Many (myself included) poked fun at the idea that the energy industry and good, old fun could ever get along, but by the looks of it, officials in Copenhagen think that they can.

Word has is that a local trash incinerator will soon be topped by a so-called winter wonderland. Pine trees included.

The trash incinerator will be in charge of processing about 400,000 tons of waste on a yearly basis, and rolling out enough heat to keep about 160,000 homes warm and cozy.

It will also provide enough electricity to meet the demands of about 62,500 homes, Grist reports.

The winter wonderland, on the other hand, will be in charge of entertainment. People will be able to access it via an elevator, and, once there, they'll have the chance to ski on a 11,000 square meters slope with three levels of difficulty.

Costs for the project are said to amount to at least $670 million (€497 million). Should things go as planned, the winter wonderland will be open by 2017 at the latest.
