Video game publisher 2K Sports announced that it has found a winner for the Perfect Game Challenge linked to Major League Baseball 2K12, named Christopher Gilmore, 21 years of age and living in Melburne, Fla.

The winner of the Perfect Game Challenge will be getting 1 million dollars (737,000 Euro) in award money and will be featured in a 30-minute special segment on Spike TV on May 24.

Gilmore took the prize omney after defeating challenger Charles Bates, a 25-year-old from Conwat, Arkansas in the final of the tournament 10 to 1.

The initial qualifying phase for the Perfect Game Challenge included 900 games that were verified as perfect by the publisher, after the player base ranked up close to 1,000,000 attempts.

The eight finalists then tried to throw the “most perfect” games in MLB 2K12 and were ranked by an algorithm which took into account degree of difficulty and degree of perfection.

Earlier during the week, some players complained that the Perfect Game Challenge was affected by an exploit in the game which allowed for significantly easier pitches.

Jason Argent, who is the vice president of marketing at 2K Sports, stated, “Winning this year’s Perfect Game Challenge is an amazing achievement that required great skill and composure in an intense tournament atmosphere.”

He added, “Chris is incredibly deserving of the $1 million prize; he certainly earned it by beating some really stiff competition.”

The Spike TV segment which will showcase the Perfect Game Challenge will be hosted by Geoff Keighley and will include special appearances from Harold Reynolds of the MLB Network and Kate Upton, one of the best-known models in the world, and a Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition cover.

Major League Baseball 2K12 is available on the Xbox 360 from Microsoft, the PlayStation 3 from Sony, the Nintendo Wii, the PS2, the PSP and the PC.
