Designed to protect users from malware on the phone and from online threats

A new application is now available for download for the users of Windows Phone devices, one that was meant to protect users from malware, namely the AVG Security Suite.

Coming from a security company, the application was made available for free, and was meant to protect users from threats both on their devices and when online.

The new mobile software was designed so as to scan files on the mobile phone to find any pieces of malware that might have slipped there.

According to some of those who had a better look at the new application, it might not have too much to protect users from when it comes to the files on the handsets.

Apparently, the software will not be able to perform deep scans of the phone, but it will only look at images and music.

To search for malware deeper than that, the application would require a level of permission that Microsoft has not made available for developers until now.

However, the mobile application should prove a great option when it comes to going online.

It was designed to protect users from phishing, which is great news, since such attacks on mobile devices have increased lately.

Update: The AVG application was already removed from the Marketplace, Brandon Watson from Microsoft announced via Twitter.

All in all, the application should prove a great addition to the list of Windows Phone software available for download for users out there, especially since it was made available for free.

Of course, there are only few actual threats on Windows Phone that users should be aware of, if any, unlike those that emerged for Google's Android operating system.

Some suggest that the risks on Microsoft's mobile platform might not increase in the near future either, as they were not big during the days of the old Windows Mobile, and are not big now, on Windows Phone.
