The first software update for Windows phone 7, known under the codename of NoDo, was expected to land on handsets in the beginning of this week, but it seems that Microsoft might have pushed it back to the second half of March, some of the latest reports on the matter suggest.

The software update, announced back in January, is expected to bring forth copy and paste capabilities to Windows Phone 7 devices, along with a series of other improvements, some of which target the performance of applications and games.

Although Microsoft announced the upcoming availability of NoDo in early 2011, the company did not commit to a specific release date for it, and that situation remains unchanged.

However, the update was rumored for roll-out in early March, and some phone makers confirmed that at a certain point, though it seems that Microsoft might have missed the dead line.

Recently, the Redmond-based software giant started to deliver a pre-NoDo update to users, which caused some problems on Samsung devices, but the company did not unveil specific details on the arrival of the copy&paste update until now.

According to a recent blog post from Microsoft France, the software update is targeted for arrival sometime in the second half of March, but an exact date was not provided.

Moreover, an article on ZDNet suggests that Microsoft might make it available for users sometime on March 21.

Early adopters of Microsoft's Windows Phone 7 OS are certainly unhappy with the situation.

The platform still needs a series of critical features to be added into the mix, so that the overall experience is improved, and the said copy and paste capability is among them.

Not to mention that Microsoft promised a new approach to delivering updates to phone users, though it seems that it delayed even the very first software update for the platform.

If so, chances are that the next major software update for Windows Phone 7, codenamed Mango, might have been pushed back as well, and that users won't have a taste of it before 2011 is over.
