The upgrade is finally available

At the beginning of last week, HTC presented, on its US website, a ROM update for AT&T Tilt, which was said to upgrade the Pocket PC from Windows Mobile 6.0 to Windows Mobile 6.1. However, it turned out that neither the Taiwanese company (HTC) nor AT&T had in fact released the update, as the available download link was actually for an old file.

Now, HTC has finally come up with the good, official and final Windows Mobile 6.1 upgrade for the Tilt (which is AT&T's own version of HTC’s TyTN II aka HTC Kaiser).

Thus, if the WM 6.1 upgrade is installed, your Tilt will have the following new “things”:

- HTC Home;

- Threaded SMS;

- Video Share Calling;

- OneNote Mobile;

- MS Voice Command;

- Remote Desktop Monitor;

- Managed Programs;

- Enroll Domain;

- PTT Button can now be reassigned under Start / Settings / Buttons.

The Tilt Windows Mobile 6.1 update can be grabbed from this address (it's HTC's official website). Go to the bottom of the page, select “the file most suitable for your device” (only one option is available, anyway), select the closest location to you and the download can begin – it should be an 88MB zip file, ROM version 3.57.502.2.

Available across the US for prices starting at $199 (with a contract agreement for two years), AT&T's Tilt might be seen as outdated, now that HTC has introduced new handsets like the Touch Diamond, Touch Pro, and the non-touchscreen S740. Still, the Tilt / TyTN II / Kaiser is definitely a good Pocket PC – actually, it's one of the best to ever come out (you can read the Softpedia review for it, if you like).

Windows Mobile 6.1 does not significantly improve the Tilt, but most owners will surely choose to upgrade to the latest WM OS. After all, “latest” is quite an attractive word, is it not?
