Nintendo has officially said that the Nintendo Wii home console will again become one of the main focuses of the video game company after the launch of the new 3DS handheld is finalized in North American and in Europe and after the launch of the new Pokemon games.

Speaking to consumer site IGN Reggie Fils-Aime, who is the president of Nintendo of America, has stated, “Candidly, we had to push out some Wii launches so we could focus on our handheld business.”

He added, “We're already juggling two big balls. To add a third would be a little bit challenging - or a fourth or a fifth.”

The leader of the American division of Nintendo has hinted at more big announcements linked to the Wii that will come before the highly expected E3 press conference.

The Nintendo 3DS has managed to perform very well initially in Japan, where it was sold out a day after the official release, moving close to 400,000 units to gamers in just one weekend.

Pokemon Black and White is also on its way to becoming a huge success for Nintendo, managing to sell 1.08 million copies in the United States in just one day, breaking the sales record for the franchise.

A new Rhythm Heaven and a new Kirby game are under development for the Nintendo Wii, but it is not yet clear when they might be launched.

Fils-Aime says that the apparent decline of the Nintendo Wii is a concern for the company but pointed out that sales were very strong in 2010 and that the console has managed to sell more than 7 million units for three consecutive years.

Analysts are predicting that for February 2011 the Xbox 360 from Microsoft will again be the best-selling home console in the United States and that the PlayStation 3 from Sony will come close or even the best sales figures of the Wii.
