Motorola Mobility and Verizon Wireless debuted the XYBOARD 8.2 and 10.1 tablets last month, but the Wi-Fi models have yet to be announced in the United States.

With only a few days left until CES 2012 trade fair kicks off, Motorola decided to put both Wi-Fi versions of XYBOARD 8.2 and 10.1 up for pre-order.

Although the slates can only be pre-ordered at Motorola's store, there's a high chance that other authorized sellers will add both tablets to their portfolios. According to Motorola both Wi-Fi XYBOARD 8.2 and 10.1 tablets will be shipping in the week of January 18.

Customers who wish to pre-order any of the frou Wi-Fi Android-based tablets will have to pay the following prices: $399.99 for the 16GB Motorola Xyboard 8.2, $499.99 for the 32GB Motorola Xyboard 8.2, $499.99 for the 16GB Motorola Xyboard 10.1, and $599.99 for the 32GB Motorola Xyboard 10.1.

Even though Motorola removed the “DROID” part from the tablets' names to how they have nothing to do with Verizon's branded XYBOARD models, they all have similar features, apart from LTE support, which is only available for the carrier's variants of the tablet.

Both Motorola XYBOARD tablets are powered by Google's Android 3.2 Honeycomb, but the company already confirmed plans to upgrade them to Ice Cream Sandwich sometime in early 2012.

On the inside, each tablet is equipped with a dual core TI OMAP 4430 CPU clocked at 1.2 GHz, which is complemented by a PowerVR SGX540 graphics processing unit.

Both have dual-cameras, 5-megapixel rear camera with autofocus and LED flash, as well as secondary 1.3-megapixel front facing camera for video calls.

Motorola launched three XYBOARD models, each with a different amount of storage: 16GB, 32GB and 64GB. Aside from that they also pack 1GB of RAM, but they lack a microSD card slot for memory expansion.
