Leading provider of consumer and professional weather products and services WeatherBug announced on Tuesday the release of new versions of its applications for BlackBerry smartphones from Research In Motion. The new releases come with enhanced interactive interfaces and customizable weather content. Both the popular WeatherBug (free) and WeatherBug Elite (paid) applications for BlackBerry smartphones were included in the new update, the company announced.

The new releases offer users the possibility to create home screen icons and to get alert notifications for various favorite locations.

One can customize weather condition information so as to have the most pertinent weather details displayed, including 7-day forecast, detailed forecast, hourly forecast, today’s conditions, and more.

WeatherBug apps for BlackBerry smartphones come with a series of unique Super App features, including:

* always-on display of current temperature and weather conditions with automatic updates as weather changes or an alert is issued * contextualized location-based weather accessible by touching map locations * tight integration with BlackBerry Contacts, Maps and Calendars by updating weather for addresses, locations and scheduling * sharing of weather content, alerts and images by email from within the applications * proactive and notification-driven alerting when severe weather threatens including lightning alerts exclusively from the WeatherBug Total Lightning Network * efficient use of push technology for conserving device resources

As for the enhancements brought to the current information about weather conditions, we can count the fact that new details have been added into the equation, including temperature, humidity, rain, pressure, wind speed and direction, and more.

Animated weather maps including Doppler radar, NWS alerts, satellite, temperature and lightning strikes should of better interactive imagery.

The new WeatherBug Elite application for Blackberry smartphones is available for download from the BlackBerry App World. The company also announced plans to make a free version of the application available early next month.
