Not long ago, we got to watch TheBackyardScientist creating quite exquisite works of art simply by pouring molten aluminum into watermelons. Today, we get to watch him make dry ice bombs explode underwater.

Before you ask, dry ice is basically the solid form of carbon dioxide and is widely used as a cooling agent. Hence, TheBackyardScientist had no trouble getting some for these experiments.

To make his bombs, the science enthusiast simply shoved bits and pieces of dry ice into regular plastic water bottles. Next, he secured the bottles with weights and threw them into a pool.

Not long after they landed underwater, the homemade dry ice bombs went boom and caused quite a commotion. The effect was the same when liquid nitrogen was used instead of dry ice. Pretty cool, right?

Not that experiments like the ones shown in this video aren't loads of fun but, once again, it must be said that safety should always come first. Otherwise put, perhaps it would be a wise idea to refrain from trying something like this at home.

True, TheBackyardScientist might not be a famed brainiac, but he seems to have a lot of experience performing such stunts, hence the fact that he has no trouble avoiding injury. Regular folks, however, might not be so lucky.
