The science enthusiast expected the experiment would result in an explosion, ended up creating a work of art instead

A new video posted online by YouTube user TheBackyardScientist from Florida, US, shows him pouring a can of molten aluminum into a watermelon.

When he first thought about performing this experiment, TheBackyardScientist expected that it would result in an explosion. That's why he made sure to put on protective gear before giving it a try.

Much to his surprise, however, the molten aluminum didn't cause the watermelon to explode. Instead, it formed an odd-looking and fairly artistic mold inside the fruit.

Just to be certain that it wasn't all just a fluke, TheBackyardScientist and his assistant recreated the experiment. Once again, the watermelon failed to explode.

“That is so much cooler than I thought! I thought it was just going to be a stupid watermelon exploding video,” the YouTube user says, all excited about how things turned up.

“We had no idea that was going to happen - we thought it was going to explode,” he adds.

As explained in the video, the molten aluminum formed the bizarre sculpture by finding nooks and crannies created by the seeds inside the fruit and filling them.

When it cooled and turned solid, the aluminum remained frozen in the shape of the channels and cavities that it had managed to reach while molten.
