Earlier this week I brought you news that the Android 4.4.2 KitKat update had finally started rolling out for Dell’s Android budget slates, the Dell Venue 7 and Venue 8.

A few days later, a lot of users have updated to the new build and at the same time the first bug reports have started pouring in.

Some owners don’t report anything being wrong at all, but others have several complaints. Like user Stych, who started the topic on the official Dell Community Forums (2) in the first place.

He reports random screen freezes, SD card not registering, apps not working, lower tolerance to the internal heat build, jerkiness when scrolling on the web and Facebook.

Other Venue tablet owners report not being able to mount the microSD card since the update. Particular to the Venue 8 is the fact that the battery will not charge past 60%, even if no issues were detected before the update.

However, out of all the complaints the most alarming problem seems to be that some tablets end up being bricked after the Android 4.4 KitKat update.

“Prior to update, my Venue never had a problem. Since the update, it has crashed multiple times, lost data, freezes, shuts down, goes into screen loops and shuts down just after displaying an error message com.android.systemui. Seriously, what went wrong,” says user conan1130.

Some users have tried performing a factory reset and reloaded everything, but the problems keep persisting. Dell representatives have yet to say something on the matter, but before they do, you might want to put off updating your Dell Venue 7 or 8 to Android 4.4.2 KitKat.
