Crytek, the PC centric developer best known for their Crysis series of shooters, has unveiled a new game there are working on, called Warfare, and set firmly within the confines of the online multiplayer shooter, developed by their Korea based team.

It seems that the game is set in the near future and, in addition to the traditional versus multiplayer modes, is also set to offer cooperative missions where gamers will need to work together in order to tackle specific objectives, with the adjective “dramatic” indicating that a story element might be present.

Warfare is set to use the same CryEngine 3 technology that will also power Crysis 2.

Being developed by a Korea based studio and primarily aimed at the South East Asian market Warface will be using the free to play model, allowing anyone who is interested in the experience to take part while relying on microtransactions to get a revenue stream going.

Weapons and upgrades are among the paid content, meaning that the microtransactions might have a clear impact on the game experience, something which Western developers try to avoid, selling mostly cosmetic enhancements.

The game currently has no launch date but gamers should probably see it go live at some point during 2011.

The Warface name was registered in early 2009 and initial speculation about it mentioned the possibility of a sequel to Crysis: Warhead.

Crytek is at the moment also working on Crysis 2, the first person shooter that is set to arrive on the Xbox 360, the PlayStation 3 and the PC on March 22 of next year.

The game will tell the story of how the aliens seen in the first game assault New York City exactly three years after the events players have already experienced on the island.

The Nanosuit, the star of Crysis, will be extensively upgraded, allowing for more complex combat maneuvers and upgrades linked to the gamer's play style.
