BioShock Infinite will succeed or fail on the strength of its game world and one major part of it will be the two main characters, the detective Booker and the superpowered girl Elizabeth.

The leader of the Irrational Games team working on the new BioShock game believes that the voice actors for the two characters, Troy Baker and Courtnee Draper, will have a pivotal role in showing the player the depth of the world and how to interact with it.

Ken Levine, who is the creator of the BioShock concept, has stated, “I have an interesting relationship with the actors, in the sense that, ideally I’d like to hire actors and bring them in and say like, ‘okay I totally got this figured out. Here’s your piece of paper, go do X, Y and Z'.”

He says there was a big change in the process used for voice work which allowed for a better end result for the gamer.

Levine added, “When we start sessions, I basically have a ton of writing I’ve done, and a bunch of scenes we wanna do, and sometimes these scenes are very prototypical of what we’re actually gonna end up with. I basically try to be very honest with them and say ‘look, I don’t really exactly know how we’re going to get there.”

He says that the interaction between the developer who writes the lines and those who lend their voices to the characters makes the whole process more organic and makes a clear difference when it comes to the final quality of the video game.

The new game takes place on the flying island of Columbia and one of Elizabeth's powers will be to open up portals to alternate realities.

BioShock: Infinite is set to be launched on the PlayStation 3, the Xbox 360 and the PC during 2012.
