Wireless carrier Vodafone UK announced today that its subscribers would be enabled to access Facebook for free through its mobile broadband service, either via their mobile phone or via their computer, for an entire week starting with Friday, July 24. According to the mobile phone operator, the free access to Facebook comes to its users as a part of Vodafone UK's Free Friday series.

For those of you that might not know it, we should mention that Vodafone UK's Free Friday series was inaugurated back in May with Free Mobile Internet, and marked the launch of a flat daily rate of just 50p for Internet navigation. Back in June, the company had the Free Music Friday, turning into the first carrier in the country to offer DRM-free music. The only difference that this offer comes with towards customers is that the Free Facebook will last for seven days, the first of the kind.

Those who would like to use a laptop or a computer to connect to Facebook will also benefit from the offering, the carrier says, only that they will have to use Vodafone's mobile broadband service to do so. Those who will only check on their Facebook account will not pay for it, though browsing around on other sites will be charged, Vodafone adds, with the carrier's standard rate (pay as you go customers and those who do not have data plans will pay 50p per day).

The mobile phone carrier also announced that Free Facebook was meant to announce the start of Facebook text alerts from July 24. Vodafone's users will have the opportunity to select from their Facebook account the notifications they would like to receive, and they will come as free text alerts. Users will be able to select from status updates to pokes, as well as the friends they would like to be notified on. In case they want to respond via SMS, they will be able to do so, only that the standard text rate will apply. More details on the offering can be found on Vodafone's website.
