Wireless carrier Vodafone is gearing up for the release of a new software update for the users of a Nexus One handset on its airwaves. The said software solution is none other than the Android 2.2 Froyo update than Nexus One owners in the United States already received, and is expected to be deployed on the European version of the Google phone as soon as next week.

Reports on Vodafone getting ready for this release emerged ever since last week, and it seems that the wireless carrier already confirmed the move, according to a recent article on Android Central. Here's what the company reportedly had to say on the matter: “We can confirm that Google will start to roll out the latest Android software version (2.2) for Vodafone Nexus One users over the course of the next week as an over-the-air update. The roll out will be phased and will be available to all Vodafone customers who have purchased the handset from us.”

Moreover, the rumors on Vodafone altering the software solution proved to be true in the end. According to the wireless carrier, Google removed two applications from the software aimed at its version of Nexus One, namely the Amazon MP3 and Google Goggle application. However, the company notes that both apps can be downloaded for free from the Android Market.

Android 2.2 will be installed with the Wireless Hotspot functionality set to 'Open'. To make sure that no-one else is able to use your device for WiFi internet access, we recommend that customers change that default setting. To do this, customers need to access Settings/Wireless and Network/Tethering & Portable Hotspot/Portable Wifi Hotspot, then toggle from 'Open' to 'WPA2PSK' and Save,” the carrier concluded.

Since Nexus One is receiving the solution, it shouldn't be too long before other Android-based handsets eligible for an update to Android 2.2 Froyo would also taste the update. Undoubtedly, users of devices like the HTC Desire, DROID, DROID Incredible, EVO 4G or Galaxy S are eagerly waiting for a new platform version to be released for them too.
