Mobile phone carrier Vodafone Australia is gearing up for the release of new software updates for some of the most popular handsets on its airwaves, namely the Samsung Galaxy S and the Galaxy S II.

The company already confirmed that they will be releasing a maintenance update for the new flagship device from Samsung, and also unveiled the fact that Android 2.3 Gingerbread is set to arrive on Galaxy S as soon as next month.

At the moment, the wireless carrier is testing the platform upgrade for the Galaxy S, yet they are confident that the software will be ready for release in September.

The smartphone is powered by Google's Android 2.2 Froyo operating system flavor, but that will change soon, as the latest platform iteration from the company will become available for Vodafone Australia's customers as well.

The Android 2.3.3 update was initially released on Galaxy S at Vodafone Australia back in July, but various issues with it determined Samsung to pull it down.

“Android 2.3 software testing is complete and on target for its scheduled release in September,” Vodafone notes on its website.

On the same page, the company offers info on the software updates that Galaxy S II is expected to receive in the near future, and notes that a maintenance firmware will arrive on this device soon.

“A new maintenance release for the Samsung Galaxy S II is currently in testing,” the wireless carrier notes.

No specific info on when this update might be released has emerged so far, but it should not be too long before the wireless carrier offers more details on the matter.

Other software updates are also being prepared at Vodafone Australia, including Android 2.3 Gingerbread for the Galaxy Tab 7 tablet PC, as well as Android 3.1 for Galaxy Tab 10.1v, though it will take a while before the latter arrives.
