The high-end Samsung Galaxy S II smartphone is finally official on the United States market too, after being launched in other countries around the world a few months ago.

The mobile phone was just announced during an event held in New York City last night, and will be released on the market in the US on the airwaves of three large wireless carriers, namely AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile.

The US flavor of Samsung Galaxy S II comes with a series of modifications when compared to the original device, and even sports a larger screen at Sprint and T-Mobile.

The first US Galaxy S II models are expected to arrive on shelves as soon as next month, on September 16th at Sprint and September 18th at AT&T. However, no info on the release date for the T-Mobile version has emerged so far.

The Galaxy S II models that went official for the US sport a different design when compared to the original device, with slightly modified buttons and with upgraded specs in some cases.

The AT&T version, for example, features the same 4.3-inch screen as the original, and will be launched as the Galaxy S II, while offering support for the wireless carrier's HSPA+ network.

Moreover, this is the thinnest smartphone to hit the US, and will be powered by a 1650 mAh battery, unlike the other models, which will include a 1800 mAh battery.

Sprint’s Galaxy S II will be launched as the Epic 4G Touch, and will offer support for Sprint's WiMAX network, as well as a 4.52-inch screen.

T-Mobile's flavor will come with a larger screen as well, and will pack support for the carrier's HSPA+ network.

All three models will be released with a 1.2 GHz dual-core application processor inside, with the usual Super AMOLED Plus display, and with an 8-megapixel photo snapper on the back, with support for 1080p HD recording.

These devices will run under Google's Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system, with the TouchWiz 3.0 UI loaded on top of it.

Sprint is expected to launch its model on September 16th at $199.99 with the signing of a contract agreement, and will soon put it on pre-order. No info on the price tag of the other two models is known for the time being.
