South Korean mobile phone maker Samsung Electronics is gearing up for the release of their US flavors of the high-end Samsung Galaxy S II smartphone, and what appears to be the first press photos of Sprint's flavor of the device have made an appearance on the Internet. The mobile phone is expected to arrive on shelves under the name of Samsung Epic 4G Touch, and should be officially introduced to the world as soon as tomorrow, August 30th.

It was originally set to be launched today, August 29th, during an event set to take place in New York City, but the weather conditions on the East coast determined Samsung to postpone the conference.

Tomorrow, the new device should go official along with two other models, set to hit the shelves at AT&T and T-Mobile. Apparently, these phones should be named Attain and Hercules, respectively.

As for the Samsung Epic 4G Touch, it was said in the beginning to be on its way to Sprint as the Samsung Within, but it seems that the handset vendor decided to go for a completely different naming scheme.

For the time being, no specific info on the release date of Sprint's Galaxy S II model emerged, but chances are that the phone will arrive about one week from now.

Most probably, Samsung will have the smartphone available via all three major wireless carriers at the same time, though no confirmation on this has emerged so far.

One thing that is certain is that the smartphone will arrive in the US with a different design, though it remains to be seen whether its internal circuitry was modified as well.

The Galaxy S II was brought to shelves with a 1.2GHz application processor inside, complemented by a large 4.3-inch touchscreen display, 1GB of RAM, and 16GB of internal memory, along with a microSD memory card slot with support for up to 32GB of additional storage space.

The handset also sports an 8-megapixel photo snapper on the back, with HD video recording and front facing camera, as well as WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity capabilities, GPS receiver, and more. It runs under Google's Android 2.3 Gingerbread OS.
