BlackBerry PlayBook, the first tablet PC that Canadian handset vendor Research In Motion brought to the market during the ongoing year, is set to arrive on shelves in Australia soon, and Vodafone already confirmed plans to add it to their offering.

The wireless carrier was not specific on when would the new device become available for purchase on its network, nor did they unveil info on the pricing of the new device, but they did confirm that the PlayBook will soon be added to their lineup.

The 7-inch tablet PC is expected to become available in Australia through other wireless carriers as well, but none offered specific info on the matter.

The tablet PC was unveiled last year in September, but RIM needed more than half a year to bring it to the market in the United States.

However, it also started to launch it in other markets around the world, and Australia seems to be among the countries that would receive it soon.

Previous reports suggested that the device might be launched on June 20th in the country, and that the WiFi-only 16GB flavor of the device would be priced at a little under $600.

The PlayBook comes with a 1GHz dual-core application processor, WiFi and Bluetooth, built-in GPS receiver, 16GB, 32GB or 64GB of internal memory, and more.

“It offers cutting-edge hardware features, one of the world’s most robust and flexible operating systems and true multi-tasking,” Adele Beachley, Managing Director for RIM, Australia, stated.

“This is a tablet that is powerful and secure enough to be used with ease both for business and for the rest of your life.”

On the back, the tablet sports a 5-megapixel photo snapper, capable of recording 1080p HD videos, as well as a front facing 3 megapixel camera for video chat.

The specifications list of this device also shows 1024×600 TFT LCD Display with LED backlight, 1GB RAM, MicroHDMI, 5300mAh sealed Lithium battery, that can offer up to 8 hours of usage time, MicroUSB, and more.
