Canadian mobile phone maker Research In Motion has just got its BlackBerry PlayBook tablet PC available for pre-order in the UK through The Carphone Warehouse and Best Buy.

The device is expected to arrive on shelves in the UK as soon as June 16th, and should be released in three different flavors, namely a 16 GB model, a 32 GB flavor, and a 64 GB one.

The BlackBerry PlayBook comes with WiFi connectivity capabilities packed inside, with a price tag set at £399 for the 16 GB version, and at £479 and £559 for the other two flavors, respectively.

As stated above, the new device should arrive on shelves in the UK come June 16th, with the QNX-based Tablet OS on board, and with an ultra-portable design.

“Multitasking heads the list of sophisticated features, making it possible to read an email, surf the web and chat with friends over BBM all at the same time. An industry first, this feature truly sets BlackBerry PlayBook apart from other tablets that have recently hit the market,” the retailer notes.

The new tablet PC also comes to the market with support for Adobe Flash Player, which should result in an enhanced web browsing or video streaming experience over Wi-Fi.

There are also a series of features aimed at business users, such as preloaded Documents To Go software so that they can edit Office documents while on the go.

“Plus, BlackBerry PlayBook cleverly links up with BlackBerry smartphones over Bluetooth with the BlackBerry Bridge software, enabling people to respond to their BlackBerry smartphone emails in real time on the tablet’s larger display,” the company continues.

The PlayBook sports a series of HD multimedia capabilities too, as well as with 5 megapixel rear facing camera for HD video recording, complemented by a 3 megapixel camera on the front for video calling.

The device sports a 7-inch touchscreen display, a dual-core application processor inside, the aforementioned internal memory options, GGS receiver, microSD memory card slot, and more.

“The BlackBerry brand is already highly regarded amongst our customers who are looking for excellent smartphones, and I expect BlackBerry PlayBook to be just as popular,” Graham Stapleton, Chief Commercial Officer for The Carphone Warehouse and Best Buy, said.

“The product packs in some fantastic features within a handy travel-friendly size and I’m sure will be well-received. With its speed, HD-capabilities and impressive multitasking BlackBerry Playbook has the potential to impact the tablet market in a significant way.”
