The developers working on MLB The Show say that the newest version of the baseball simulation, which is set to appear on both the PlayStation 3 home console and the PlayStation Vita handheld, will use a cloud save feature to share progress between the two devices.

Gamers will be able to begin play on any device and advance their career but despite the similarities between the two version of the game actual cross platform play will not be possible.

The Vita version of MLB The Show will have a multiplayer mode that has not yet been detailed.

On the new Sony handheld the baseball simulation will have quicker plays, with the developers ready to eliminate some elements, like close ups and crowd shots.

But the cinematic features will be expanded on the PS3 and will add to the depth of the video game.

Ramone Russell, who is the community manager working at the San Diego studio of Sony Computer Entertainment, told the official PlayStation Blog that, “We’re trying to blur the lines between baseball simulation on your PS3 and what you’d see on MLB.TV sitting on your couch. When a batter strikes out, the camera will cut and you will see his face, his anger.”

He added, “You’ll hear more season-specific commentary, more conversation pieces. The commentators are going to talk about the MVP race, the Cy Young race, the series that you played in two days before. They’re going to talk about how your pitcher is having an awful year because he’s 5 and 15.”

MLB The Show also comes complete with better ball physics and more support for the PlayStation Move motion tracking controller.

Improvements have also been made to the way commentary is synched up to the actual game action.

Sony has not yet announced that launch date for MLB The Show but both versions will be out at roughly the same time.
