Video game publisher SEGA and the development team at its AM2 studio have offered some more information on the upcoming second revision for Virtua Fighter 5, telling players that one of their main aims is to make the player feel what the virtual characters are feeling during the battle.

Daichi Katagiri, who is the game director working on the next Virtua Fighter, has stated that, “We constantly ask ourselves the question: In combat what feels good? How does it feel? And I think the response has changed over time. To put it simply, we want the player to feel the character’s pain.”

He added, “For example, when you do a roundhouse kick, your opponent goes into the air. That body is pretty messed up, with its face looking one way and the body facing the other direction. In real life, that would never happen. We were convinced that those motions would enhance the overall experience and increase the level of satisfaction.”

Character feelings are not at the top of priorities when fighting games are involved, but the new approach might allow the new Virtua Fighter 5 to stand out from the crowd and deliver something new to long-term fans.

The first version of the game was initially launched by SEGA in Japanese arcades back in 2006 and the game has since arrived on home consoles with a number of enhancements that gamers welcomed, including enhanced versus play.

Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown, which includes new skins for character, new animations and new moves, was released in arcades during 2011 and already received one revision.

The video game will be out on the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3 during the summer of this year and will be delivered via digital distribution, complete with an enhanced online mode.
