Nuance Communications Inc. announced today that Canadian wireless carrier Virgin Mobile was set to offer its users a Voicemail-to-Text service powered by Nuance’s voicemail-to-text platform. According to the company, the service is being delivered as a standard feature with a wide range of rate plans, but can also be enjoyed as “an a-la-carte service” for CAN $5 per month. Virgin Mobile Canada subscribers have now the possibility to receive voicemail messages as text, via text message or email, both on their mobile phones or on their PCs, the company notes.

The new Voicemail-to-Text service from Virgin Mobile eliminates the need for messages to be listened to, or for important details to be noted down. Given the fact that they are converted to texts, customers can respond to them either via call, email or text message, while also having the possibility to save, forward or delete messages on their phone or PC. In addition, users will receive a one-click access link along with the transcription of the voice message, so that the returning messages are made simpler than before, not to mention that one will also receive caller ID details and a link to the original message.

“The availability of this cool Voicemail-to-Text service adds to the wide variety of exciting choices that Virgin Mobile now offers its customers on the new HSPA plus network,” said Robert Blumenthal, president, Virgin Mobile Canada. “Nuance Communications was an obvious choice as a partner given they are a leader in their field. Together, we are making sure our customers get the most they possibly can out of their mobile, from the company that truly is on their side.”

As we have already reported, Virgin Mobile has just announced the launch of its HSPA + network, and also introduced a series of new mobile phones and services to its users. Its Voicemail-to-Text services are based on offerings from SpinVox, which was acquired by Nuance not too long ago. The service is available on the carrier's network both for English and French voice message conversions, the company notes. Those who would like to benefit from this service can either head over to a Virgin Mobile Canada location across the country or can go to the carrier's website.

“Virgin Mobile Canada has a focus on unique, innovative services for its customer base, making the company a perfect wireless partner for Nuance voicemail-to-text services,” stated John Pollard, vice president, Voice-to-Text Services, Nuance Communications. “The availability of our service with Virgin Mobile Canada combined with our existing user base in Canada brings the power of voice-to-text messaging to more than 21 million wireless subscribers across the country – underscoring our leadership in the Canadian market, as well as the value that our services deliver to carriers and consumers.”
