Recently, mobile phone carrier Virgin Mobile USA announced the release of a new mobile application in the Android Market, called VIRGIN MOBILE LIVE 2.0, and meant to be the company's next generation of social networking music application.

According to the company, the new application would easily offer access to its critically acclaimed music stream hosted by DJ Abbey Braden, as well as to Virgin Mobile FreeFest performance videos.

Moreover, the app comes with the option to “check in” at events and performances, and would sync status updates with Facebook and Twitter.

The application was already made available for download via the Android Market, enabling users access live and taped streaming music and film programming wherever they are.

Moreover, the company notes that live performances from Virgin Mobile’s “LIVE HOUSE” at SXSW will become available starting next week on phones that have VIRGIN MOBILE LIVE 2.0 on them.

“Music has always been at the core of Virgin Mobile’s DNA,” said Ron Faris, director of Brand Marketing for Virgin Mobile.

“And given our fans’ addictive nature to discover and share new music, we wanted to make sure they had access to the hottest new bands right at their fingertips. We’re especially thrilled to invite non-customers to this experience so they can see what our brand is all about.”

Through this application, Android users - regardless whether Virgin Mobile or non-Virgin Mobile customers - would be able to stream content from VIRGIN MOBILE LIVE, the music and entertainment stream from the wireless carrier that does not require a contract.

“VIRGIN MOBILE LIVE launched last year and features rock, hip hop, indie, pop and dance remixes and exclusive artist interviews with signature host, Abbey Braden,” the carrier notes.

The new application comes with select film and music content from Virgin Mobile-sponsored events, but a more diverse selection would be included in the offering via future updates.

Android users, including those owning one of Virgin Mobile’s recently launched LG Optimus V or Samsung Intercept smartphones, can transform their devices into mobile music machines that would leverage Virgin Mobile Live’s built-in music player.

The app can be seen in the Android Market here.
