On Thursday, mobile phone carrier Orange officially introduced the Orange Book Club Android app, through which users would have the opportunity to access a number of over 23,000 eBooks from the Android device in their hand.

According to the wireless carrier, the new software would enable users browse and download thousands of eBooks, including some from the Orange Prize for Fiction, directly on their smartphone or tablet device.

Last year, the carrier launched the online and mobile web version of Orange Book Club. With the new application, however, the company aims at enhancing the experience that users receive from the portal.

Over 23,000 eBooks and audio books are available through Orange Book Club Android app, all of which would be billed straight to user's Orange account, via an included ‘one-click buy’ system.

At the same time, the new application comes with cross-platform functionality, so that users would be able to read a book on more than just one device, including their smartphone, the tablet PC they own, or the desktop PC at home.

Stuart Jackson, Brand Communications Director at Orange, said: “The new Orange Book Club app gives readers a truly 21st century book-buying experience.”

“Think of a book you'd like to read and you can download it instantly on your connected device. Unlike many other eBook services on the market, ours allows you to purchase with a single click, making it easier than ever before to download your next must-read novel - wherever you are.”

Some of the main features of the application would include sample chapters and bookmarks, as well as a series of personalization options, including some for editing the fonts, the text, or even the background colors.

“eBooks from as little as 50p are available in the library and includes classics, bestsellers and Orange Prize for Fiction books. The app also houses a major feature section which focuses on previous Orange Prize winners, quotes from each year’s chair of judges and special offers,” the carrier notes.

The Orange Book Club Android app is available for all devices running under Google's mobile operating system.

Moreover, the mobile software was made available for Java, Symbian and Blackberry devices too. Those interested in downloading the app would find it available in the Android Market, as well as on Orange's website here.
