The company dropped the MMO structure for the game

A job listing from developer Vigil Games reveals that the company is looking for a senior programmer who has a solid experience with the first-person shooter genre and is interested in trying out new ideas linked to it.

Here’s the relevant text in the announcement: “Vigil Games is looking for an experienced Sr. Gameplay Programmer to help design, implement, and refine the overall gameplay experience for our next title. The Senior Gameplay Programmer will work closely with other Art and Design leads to insure that all gameplay functionality is carried through to completion and provides an incredible player experience.”

Those who apply for the position need to have experience working on at least one major FPS release and solid knowledge of the mechanics and gameplay that characterize the genre.

Presumably this means that the company is now entering the actual development phase of Warhammer 40,000: Dark Millenium Online.

The game started life as a MMO which was supposed to allow gamers to choose one class from the human dominated Imperium and pledge his life to the Emperor as he takes on a number of alien threats, from the Orks to the Chaos forces.

For a long time Vigil Games and THQ failed to offer any clear information on the game and many gamers believed that the project had become vaporware.

The publisher then fell on hard times and had to make a number of tough choices about the titles that he was willing to fund in the long term.

The two companies have announced that Warhammer 40,000: Dark Millenium (presumably without the Online element) is set to transform into “an immersive single-player and online multiplayer experience with robust digital content, and engaging community features.”

It’s not clear when the first-person shooter might be launched or what platforms it might arrive on.
