In the midst of speculations about THQ’s financial future, the publisher has once again confirmed, in order to clear things up, that it’s working together with Turtle Rock Studios on a new first person shooter project.

THQ hasn’t been going through the best of times recently, since the company was forced to lay off a considerable number of employees from its various studios all around the world, after seeing its stock price plummet and exiting the kids business.

After another round of layoffs last week, with people from Warhammer 40,000 studio Relic Entertainment and Darksiders II developer Vigil Games, THQ is showing signs that it’s still going strong.

According to the company’s Jeremy Greiner, work is now fully underway at developer Turtle Rock on a new first person shooter.

"Starting work on the campaign for my next FPS, which is being made by the creators of Left 4 Dead," he said on Twitter. "This one is going to be amazing."

Greiner worked as a community manager for Kaos Studios, the developer of Homefront, which was shut down last year by THQ after the game failed to meet expectations.

Turtle Rock previously worked alongside Valve on its hugely popular Left 4 Dead cooperative first person shooter, which impressed millions of people from all around the world across platforms like the PC, PS3 or Xbox 360.

THQ announced last month that it will publish Turtle Rock’s next game and that it’s planning to release it in the fiscal year of 2014, which starts on April 1, 2013.

Sadly, no other details are known about the project right now, only that it’s a first person shooter. Given Turtle Rock’s experience with Left 4 Dead, you can bet that some kind of multiplayer, whether competitive or cooperative, will be present in the final version.
