One of the most popular VoIP application for iPhone, Viber is about to make the jump to Android devices.

The company behind the application has officially announced that Viber for Android Beta is now open for sign ups to all those who wish to try it out before the final release.

Unlike the iPhone version, this one will be available with Android-only features, meant to make it more appealing to Android fans.

Viber for Android allows users to make free calls to both Android and iPhone users, which means that existing users of the iPhone version will be able to make free calls and send free text messages to their friends with Android phones.

Those who are picked for beta testing are advised to report any issues they encounter so that they can be resolved as soon as possible.

According to the developers, the Beta release was built to support most Android devices, as the application has been tested on over 20 of the most popular devices from Samsung, HTC, LG, Motorola and Sony Ericsson.

Although, Viber's Android version comprises the same features included in the iPhone version, the Beta release also offers some unique features to Android users:

- Full call screen: whenever a Viber call is received; - Popup text message notification which allows users to respond to text messages without opening Viber; - Tighter integration with the phone to allow users to see their regular call logs and messages inside Viber; - Ability to set Viber as the phone’s default dialer so that users can use the Viber dialer for all of their phone calls, not just for Viber.

Viber is now Skype's main competitor as the most popular VoIP application, having been downloaded over 10 million times within its first 2 months.
