Verizon Wireless announced the introduction of its Verizon Hub, scheduled for February 1st, this year. The device is a new touchscreen home phone system that has been designed to include both wireline and wireless connectivity in one simple service, which replaces the old-style home phones. The new device provides connectivity with any broadband connection, whether or not a Verizon FiOS Internet or DSL is supplied by other high-speed service provider.

“The Verizon Hub reinvents the home phone system that’s been centered on your kitchen counter for years. We’re bringing huge new functionality to a common household device that will unlock its true potential. And in the process, Verizon Wireless is updating the tools busy families can use to manage their lives,” said Mike Lanman, vice president and chief marketing officer at Verizon Wireless. “The Verizon Hub is going to change the way you think about what you want and need your home phone to do. Whether you’re thinking about getting rid of your home phone or can’t live without it, now is the time to try out the Verizon Hub.”

According to the company, the Verizon Hub makes use of the existing broadband connections and can be set up fast and easy. It can work with any open connection anywhere in the United States and makes it easy for any user to manage communications, contacts and calendars. It can allow people to stay updated as well as to keep in touch with their friends.

The device comes with all calling features an advanced home phone would include, to which visual voicemail and robust contact list management have been added. Furthermore, the company also packed inside the device exciting messaging options, such as text message calendar alerts and audible turn-by-turn directions provided by the Hub to Verizon Wireless phones. All this can be achieved through only a few simple touches of the screen.

Verizon Hub offers users information on local traffic and weather or directions to a new site when the location has been changed. Moreover, it can also update the calendar and announce any changes or work as a reminder in case of appointments, while also being able to deliver trailers from upcoming movies and offer users the possibility to purchase tickets to the shows.

The information on the Hub can also be accessed via a companion Web site, users being able to add calendar entries or input new contacts from the site. Popular applications like VZ Navigator and Chaperone can also be accessed through the Verizon Hub, while other features have been included as well. More information on the device, as well as on the price and service plans will be made available on the company's official site.
