Mobile phone carrier Verizon Wireless announced on Monday that it updated the specifications it had previously released on “wireless devices that will run on the nationwide 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) network” the company is deploying on the Upper 700 MHz C-Block spectrum. At the same time, the operator also announced that it planned on hosting a webcast on January 20 next year so as to review the said specifications.

“Released today, the updated specifications address network access and SMS requirements and data retry test plans, as well as include new information about lab and signaling conformance, the open development device approval and introduction process and more. These documents will help guide developers into the next phase of bringing their LTE devices to the Verizon Wireless network,” the mobile phone operator also noted.

It is a known fact that Verizon aims at rolling-out its 4G LTE wireless network with an “all at once” approach. The company announced a few times before the services were set to become commercially available in a number of around 25 to 30 markets during the upcoming year 2010. At the same time, Big Red also committed to delivering the LTE services to almost its entire 3G footprint by the end of 2013. The upcoming 4G LTE network is aimed at offering connectivity to a wide range of electronics devices and machines, the carrier also stated.

The webcast on reviewing the specs is set to kick off at 11 a.m. ET on Wednesday, January 20, 2010. Those who would like to register for it can already do so, via this page. The carrier made the specs on 4G LTE 700 MHz devices available on its website here. Developers interested in learning which sections of the specifications have been updated can check on the Revision History for that.
